Porsche Crest BOGE Insert removal

I need a bit of help, guys. I have everything loose on the old inserts but I can't get them to pull out of the housing. I don't see anything that would be holding up the process. (Yes, they are Boges, not Koni's with a rollpin.) My old ones are most definitely shot. No rebound at all.
I tried a search but came up empty. Any tricks I can try?
Thanks,

Garage
Cover the top of the strut housing with a rag and push on the rod, everything will pop out including a bit of fluid (why the rag).

Good luck .

Sounds like you did not loosen the big nut at the top of strut housing.

For Boges, you remove the top nut from the strut tower, push the stud into the wheel well, remove the dust cover and then remove the big nut at the top of the strut housing.

As AJ88Cab points out, when you remove the insert, there will be a flow of oil out of the housing that will go directly onto your brakes unless you have something there to stop it.

Thanks guys. I did remove the big nut on the top of the housing with pliers. I tried pulling up on the strut rod but it didn't help. The unit should just come up and out of the housing, right?

Got it!
There is an o-ring in the housing keeping the insert seated.
Back to the garage to finish my brake upgrade.
Thanks

Wayne, I experienced exactly the same. Turned out to be due to a vacuum effect. I pulled till I thought I was gonna burst an aneurysm in my head. Slowly it started to move and then suddenly released from the housing with a schluuuurp and a rather foul smell from the oily liquid inside the housing.

Keep pulling!

All back together now. That is one nasty smell from the shock oil.
I thought gear lube was bad.
