Wheel and tire option Q's

I have an 1972 narrow body 911. I have recently uprated this car with a 3.2 engine from a 89 carrera. After a couple of drives I have come to realize that I have some grip issues with my tires. From checking the part numbers on my wheels 901.361.013.04 it turns out that my wheels are 1968 5.5 x 15's. Im wanting to upgrade these to allow a wider tire to be used. Im hoping to keep the narrow body but realize this is quite restrictive on rear tire options. From my research so far I have come up with 3 options and I just wanted to get some opinions from people who are more in the know about wheel and tires.

By the way this is a street car and never sees a track.

Option 1 fit flat 6 x 15's all round, good points reasonably priced and easy to come by. Downside not that much better than what I have, what is the widest tire I could use on these?

Option 2 use deep 6 x 15's on the front and 7R's on the rear Ideal option but probably wont find 7R's at a price I could afford.

Option 3 go for SC flares and fit 7's and 8's good points best option for getting widest tires on my car, downside id proffer to stay narrow body.

From reading threads on pelican about wheel and tires I have seen posts by people who have been having Fuchs widened and this got me thinking could I get a flat 6 then have it widened on the backside to a 7j this would give a 7J wheel with the same offset as the 7R's. Any thoughts on this would it end up more expensive than just bying a 7R wheel, can anyone recommend anyone who does this?

Any advice appreciated on this topic as I really can't make my mind up what to do.

Thanks Steve

I have heard that 1998 Hotpoint washing machine dums make nice wide rims for 6INCH Fuchs - you can simply use blue-tac(TM) to hold them together.

Cheeky bump for my old 3.2!

You can get 7s on the back....little bit of fender rolling and a 225/45 tire...

Be careful. 225's will fit some cars and not others. 205 x 55's on 16's just barely fit at the rear of my narrowbody 73. You want to try the tire and wheel you plan to use on all four corners of your car to be sure it fits before committing.
The last 7R's I saw were sold for $2200 each! YOu can buy a beautiful set of four modern forged wheels from Fikse or the like for not much more.
Frankly, for the street, none of this matters very much as you don't ever come close to using the capability of your tires. If it were me, I'd get a nice set of 6 x 15's or 16's and put 205 x 50's on them. This will give you the right period look and it should be quite inexpensive. 225's on this wheel would be too wide; tires that are too wide for a rim handle badly and are a step backward in handling.
