Fresh Air Blower Motor.
Calling from Plymouth, England. Can anyone assist please ?
The Fresh Air Blower Motor on my 1989 3.2 Carrera is playing up insofar as it no longer functions. Would anyone be able to provide me with a step by step idiots guide to accessing to motor for inspection and testing ? Thankyou. Tony. |

From Memory
Best I can do is from memory of removing mine and leaving it out, I didn't photo the job.
-Unsnap felt carpet snaps toward the rear of the trunk (just below the windshield). Pull it back out of the way. -Remover the black pressed wood/cardboard cover. 3 bolts I think. -The fan is in the enclosure at the center of the car. -Remove ducts from both sides. -Disconnect the heater/vent actuator lines (solid wires with adjustment/retaining bolts holding them in place). -Unplug the power/speed control electrical connector. -I think the enclosure is held together with 2 clips. Remove them. -I think the enclosure splits in half. Remove the upper half. -Pull out the fan and motor assembly. Best I can piece together from a project I did a few years back. Good luck, Gordo

I just did this on my '88 3.2 and Gordo has it right, except I think you will have to pull the enclosure out to replace the motor. Although if you can do it in place it will save you a few steps. To pull the entire fan enclosure you also have to remove the mesh intake grille at the cowl and remove two screws that hold the enclosure. Also there is a brace by the brake booster that has to be removed. Actually I think I just unbolted one end and rotated it out of the way. And finally, before you remove the control cables mark them where the clips are so you know where they reinstall.
The whole proceedure is well documented in the Bentley manual. If you are going to do more DIY projects I highly recommend it. Good Luck Andrew

You don't need do disassemble it to test it. You can plug in power in the 4-pin socket under the cardboard cover.
Otherwise Gordo is correct. Do a search, this has been coverd. Try my user name.
