Transmission Gear oil?

Ive been told to use only Sweapco, told to use synthetic, and then told to use a good standard 80-90. Any input?

depends on what transmission you have. The general consenus is to use Swepco for the 915 tranny.
What year car/type of transmission do you have??

Yup, Swepco 201 is popular for the 915. For the later G50 synthetic seems arguably more appropriate.

Make sure you can release the fill plug before you drain..

you can search swepco here and read about tranny fluid and make up your own mind. Most 915 guys do not use synthetic.
If your driving plans are extreme, there might be a better racing oil you want, but for normal driving and DE events the Swepco helps the 915 shift a bit smoother. If you are having shifting issues, such as trouble shifting, you might want to read about shift coupler bushings, shifter bushings and shift coupler adjustment. If these adjustments and the oil make no noticable difference, then it could be time to look inside the tranny at the syncro's.

What about gear oil for a 911T from 1969, I think it is a 901 gear.

Tripster,

For your 915, you'll definitely want to stay away from the synthetics. Swepco seems to be the fluid of choice for standard applications, although any 80-90 should do the trick. Another popular brand for this is Valvoline, IIRC.

The reason to stay away from the synthetics is basically that they are TOO slippery. The synchronizers require at least a little bit of friction to work properly, which the dino-oils provide.
