Charging two battery system

OK this might be a dumb question. If so feel free to let me have it. My car has two batteries. Does this mean they are six volt batteries or twelve volt batteries. I used to be able to remember the whole thing about "wired in series or parallel" but it eludes me now. If they are six volt how would I charge them when not installed in the car? The batteries are made by Interstate and have the following ID #s on them; U911-50 300CCA. I just pulled them out today after having the car in storage since mid December. I didn't bother checking if they would turn it over as I have some other stuff to do before that.

Thank you. In that case if I were to jump it with booster cables I could attach both cables to the same battery. I'm not sure that will ever be an issue but you never know.

If they are the old liquid lead acid type, it's easy to determine voltage by counting the filler caps. 2 Volts per cap. Anyway, when hooked up properly, the early 911 twin batteries can be charged together as a single 12V battery...

Yes, they have six filler caps each. And I now remember being told that years ago. The batteries are actually fairly new (2002-3 I think), the prev. owner put them in. Should I switch them from side to side or does it make any difference? I will have owned the car for a year in June so this stuff is still new to me.
