Fixing a bad paint job...
Hey all,
Thanks for all the help so far!! I've got another question about this 85 carrera I just picked up... The previous paint was pretty bad. Overspray being the biggest problem. Even on the door handles!! I just wish the guy would have masked the car better...would have looked perfect then. I'm wondering if you guys know a place in LA (preferrably up around Pasadena (near TRE) where I can bring it and hopefully get a nice detail job fixing up the overspray, etc? How much would something like that run me? You can't really tell from the pics, but I should have got some pics closer up.

I would take it to another body shop, not a detailing place.
The body shop will know how to remove the overspray correctly - I fear a detailing shop will just throw chemicals at it until one works (potentially damaging things further).

Why not Kevin's place in Van Nuys?
Automotive Innovations and Restoration 15020 Oxnard St. unit E Van Nuys, Ca. 91411 818 786 2181 Also - be very careful with the chromed cast wheels. A friend just discovered nasty cracks on his (993 Cup II's), so unsafe he wouldn't drive on them. Take them off and look at the back sides closely.

Depending on how "bad" the overspray is - you may be able to use a clay bar to remove some of the over spray. Judicious use of a rubbing or polishing compounds can help. You can check over on roadfly's detailing board for more information.
Good luck. |

I 2nd the clay bar approach - use the Adam's claybar stuff, that's what I use on my car:
