Out of cold storage today, took three attempts before it started.

Three weeks since last driven/started. Stored in cold dry garage.

Decided to drive it today. Outdoor temp/conditions, 30s low humidity.
Took three cranks before it would start, thereafter for the rest of the day, started on first turn immediately.

Comments? Thanks

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it - especially if it ran fine for subsequent starts.

If I had been asleep for three weeks, darn sure I wouldn't jump out of bed running!

while there may be some mechanical issues involved i wouldn't worry about it either- i agree with "emission" (above) as my car is money if i am driving it- if it takes a few days off even and i start in 58 degree so cal morning it might have a "moment" or two as it comes too- it really is like my body- just need a moment then it's golden all day, week, month if it's exercised and stretched out- they are good reliable cars but they aren't camrys- even my 97 audi with 75k is a bit tempermental at ignition after a few weeks rest- anyway, those are my thoughts-

fuel may have evaporated out of the carb bowls....choke may not have been set correctly...could be lots of things....but highly unlikely anything abmormal....just drive it more often....check float level.....when I had a motorcycle that was typically what the issue was...

You guys have old cars that sit for weeks in the cold and then start up on the first crank like it ran an hour ago? Really?

30 Degrees and Dry. Three months since last run.

69E: Connected the battery, switched the ignition on, let the fuel pump run a few moments (ie. 15 seconds). Pulled the hand thottle, two stabs with the right foot and on the third twist of the wrist fired right up.
85 Carrera: Connected the battery, switched on the ignition, waited a few moments, turn the key and it fired right up. First try.
Ducati: hmmm...still trying to get it started!

Yeah, forget the Duc's in the cold. If its not the 2 big jugs, its the crappy starter sprag...

Thanks for the responses, I think fuel eveporation theory sounds logical.

I was amazed that my Trans Am started up immediately after almost 4 months of not running so it isn't unheard of.

I would never abuse my 911 that way though. :)
