Gas in Oil

So I'm getting ready to drop the engine out of a car I just bought to check things out and to do a top end rebuild. As I'm draining the oil I can smell a very strong gas smell, so I gave the oil a whiff and it smelt more like gas than oil. I have never experienced this and am wondering why? Any info would be great and I'm thinking it may tell me more about the condition of the motor. Thanks.

Sounds like:
1) a CIS system with leaking injectors, or
2) a 69-73 911 w/ Mechanical Injection thats stuck in its warm up cycle, or
3) an EFI system with injectors that are much too big.
Either way, its verrrrrrry bad for the bearings & such.
Don't let this go too long.
Cheers,
Len
