Tach help

I have the 3.0 SC engine installed in the 84 Carrera. Everything seems to work except the tach. Violet/black is attached to violet black. Should it work or is the 3.2 tach actually digital rather than analog.

Thanks in advance

Bryan

narrow the search by putting Sherwood or Warren in the search box - not sure which, I think the latter.

you might compile the good posts here as a public service to the next guy...

When I put my '78 3.0 in my 1970 E, I had to replace the tach with one that is compatible with the different ingition system. I don't know about the 3.2 engine, but you may need to get a different tach also. It think it depends on the year of the 3.0, as the distributer changed at some point.

My tach still does not work, but I think it's because of a faulty Bosch ignition.

Bryan,

Have you verified [with oscilloscope, CMOS logic probe, or Noid] that there is a pulse train at the Black/Violet wire going into the tach??? The 'TD' signal from the SC Bosch CDI unit should drive the 3.2 tach just fine, but something may have caused a problem with the TD signal from the CDI, such as D8 being blown. There must be continuity from CDI unit to the input lead into the tach when checking for a signal, that is, the connection must be normal, not disconnected when checking for the pulses!

There is documentation on the SC CDI unit in this thread:

6-pin SC/Turbo CDI unit repair documentation
