Update on 74 project
 

I've created a blog to track the progress of work on my 74 911. The link is below. If you have any questions or comments I'm all ears. I've spent the last couple of months tearing the car down for body and paint work. Hopefully we'll be hitting the body shop soon.

I've got a few more pictures posted on the blog. I managed to get the front and rear bumpers fit this weekend. Still a long way to go but I can see the project taking shape. Big step was pulling the oil tank and getting the room to work with the right rear quarter.

You've made a lot of progress in a couple of months. I've been working on mine for over a year and haven’t gotten far enough to put on anything new!

There's going to be a lot more adding and removing before this project is done. I haven't even gotten to the fun part of the fiberglass work, getting the fender flares fitted. Oh, and then there will be putting it all back together again. My big push now is to get it out of the garage and into a paint booth so my wife can have her parking spot back.

It sounds like we are all in the midst of the same type of project. I'm relatively local to you guys (South San Diego). Please let me know if there's anything I can help with, ie info, lessons learned, tools, used parts (limited), etc.

David, what a small world, you work with my next-door neighbor, Joe A. He e-mailed me a link to your Blog today.

Your project is a lot like mine with the exception of some of my rust problems. As I said before, I’m still in the teardown phase and about ready to start dealing with my rust issues. My biggest problem is that I don’t have enough time to spend out in the garage.

I’d love to come over and see your car sometime if you’re up for visitors.

Poorsha, the blog looks great. I like the clean, newly painted suspension pieces. I am planning on painting the car silver, and am looking at a Mercedez color currently. I want something warmer then the traditional silver. There is an example of the color I am looking for on the blog, it is the color on the 356 about a third of the way down.

The blog thing is fun but I want to rearrange the postings so that the first one is on top followed by later ones.
I can not get it to work.

I have lots of pictures of the car.
This is my hobby. I take them apart, restore, refinish and put them back together.
It has become a bit of a problem (according to the wife).
I was thinking silver also but will stay with the brown.
I want to keep the car as a bit of a sleeper but she will go :)
I will add some stuff to the blog so keep an eye on it.
I will do the same with yours.

The blogs typically post the most current entry at the top. Makes it a little odd from a traditional chronicalling approach but it's the way they work. This is my second Porsche, the first was a 914 that I restored a few years back. I enjoy the work, getting my hands dirty, etc. I'll keep an eye on your blog, I'll even add a link to it from mine. :)

HI,
Saw your Blog, looks nice.
IMO, if you haven't mounted that roll bar, SELL it and get one that mounts to the sill.
I had an old racecar 912 that had an autopower roll bar and the floor was cracked aver 50% around the mounting pads.

not only is it not safe, but it uses up interior space.

I don't mean to be mean, just speaking from experience.
