Nippondenso Compressor Rebuild - Which Oil to Use?

So, following the very thorough write-up here, I recently rebuilt my compressor.

I'd like to replace the compressor oil lost in the process, but am not sure what it was. The system was last charged with ES12 (which has oil in it) and prior to that R12. I will be sticking with the ES12 for diagnostic purposes for now (read: cheap to replace as necessary) and just want to add some lubrication to the compressor for initial startup. I have not yet decided to make the switch to r134a.

Denso says that the compressor came from the factory with ND #8 oil in it, which is closest in composition/viscocity to PAG-46. My concern is that the PAG-46 bottles say that it is for use with R134a refrigerant only. The CSR at Kragen says "that's just because R12 isn't used much anymore...."

So, any recommendations here based on subject knowledge or first-hand experience? PAG-46? Ester? Something else?

Thanks,
