Who is using Autronic or Haltech?

If anyone cares I am rebuilding my dad's motor from 3.0 to something bigger and going ITB with EFI. I narrowed down my choice to Haltech and Autronic. The more I look, read, Autronic takes the nod over Haltech, no because of Autotune because I really dont know how well it works but in the price per power bracket.

So who here is using, was using, might use either of these brains? FWIW I am going totally electronic with crank referenced ignition and EFI, Alpha-N mode for idle then switching over to density based once the intake air flow has smoothed out. Either way Bosch injectors will be used and 99% sure on the Bosch coilpacks as well.

Comments, concerns, pros, cons, what does everyone think?

I can't help you but I am interested in what others have to say. I am currently struggling to get Megasquirt up and running and might consider other brands of ECU. Autronic seems to get good reviews, from internet searches I have done it looks like the latest Haltech ECU's have had some problems?

porschekid, did you find anyone using this system?

Porschekid962 05-22-2006 11:14 AM

Well now I am using autronic, or will be shortly. Also someone I know locally through my dad uses Haltech quite a bit in porsche applications.

The engine is done and wiring of the whole system will happen this week and hopefully make noise by this weekend. Fingers crossed

good luck! what system did you go for? are you twin plugging? if so, what ignition system?

I narrowed my choice to Autronic or Motec. I had a bit of a windfall so I decided to go Motec but the Autronic seems very good. I wouldn't mess with the Autotune, I'd just schedule some dyno time with someone who knows EFI tuning. www.efi101.com can probably help you find a shop near you.

cheers david, im still on the fence with my choice of efi. can't seem to get sds out of my head to be honest. it just seems to be a real straight forward setup and i do kind of like that. but autronic isn't too far off in terms of cost.....I liked the idea of the auto tune to get me safely up and running as well, so i could then work on a/f's with a lm1 to get it spot on-although, from what autronic says, the auto tune would get me very very close-or am i missing something with this....

I went with the Autronic SM4 and am using an ignition expander. The engine is twin plugged, the ignition is being dealt with by using 6 bosch ignitor modules, 6 twin post coilpacks and the autronic doing the rest. Ill let you know how it goes when I get into wiring.

FWIW I am getting a base map for starting and getting to the dyno. There it will be tuned to the final mapping. Then its time for new brakes

I am using a microtech on my twin plug 3.4...........

Cheers
