Purpose of brown wire loop with connector near DME

I found this brown wire loop near the DME harness on my '87. It was not connected. What does it relate to? If it measures certain parameters and it's not connected would that screw-up my Steve Wong chip mapping because I'm sure Steve assumes it's connected, right? Some help appreciated, couldn't find this wire in the search.

That wire gets disconnected after an Steve Wong chip is installed. The SW Chip assumes that has been unplugged.

EDIT: Here is the link to the install instructions that have a detailed explanation as to what that wire does:

OK, so when it's time to smog check I should reconnect the brown wire to gain some margin in passing the test? (I don't want to remove the Steve Wong chip).

Good question. I think you want to leave it as is. The SW chip should be fine for smog checks. If you plug in the wire it will foul up the chip readings and could effect your test.

I havent tried smog yet with mine, anyone else here know?

Steve Wong may want to post here.
