84 Carrera Sparkplug Socket Size
Really dumb question , is it 5/8 or 13/16?
|
Hi,
My sparkplugs take a 14mm sparkplug socket, which I guess is closer to a 5/8 than 13/16, although I don't know how good a fit a 5/8 is. |
Charles must be using some very unusual spark plugs!!!
All of the spark plugs I have heard of for '65 thru '89 model 911 engines use a standard 13/16" spark plug socket ... including Bosch, NGK, Beru, Champion, Lodge, Nippondenso, etc. ... Of course ... the early factory Klein 21 spark plug tool works best! |
Why would you want to use anything but the factory tool? It is in the toolkit.

I just did mine (85 Carrera) and I am pretty sure I used the 13/16 (the larger one). Just verify on the new plug. Before you start the job, I highly suggest you also have a POCKET SIZE MAGNETIC PICK-UP TOOL. It came in handy for me for getting the socket back out after tightening the new plug.

Paul,
In the spare Klein 21 I got off eBay ... the rubber was pretty well chewed up. After cleaning it with Brakleen and B-12 Chemtool ... the rubber slipped out with a little encouragement from a spring grabber. I was able to duplicate it with a piece cut from the thickest part of a thornproof bicycle inner tube and 3M #8001 weatherstripping adhesive to hold it in place. |
Great tip! Thanks Warren...
