Roll bar side bars.

With a concern for added safety I have this question. I noticed that some of you have simple side bars for your roll bar. I am not into a full cage idea but the added side impact and increased strength are appealing. Are there companies that make bolt in roll bars with this feature or can you adapt a bolt in bar to work with removeable side bars? I would appriciate to see pictures and ideas on this.

Mine had two bars on each side that were removable. They connected with two brackets shaped like this. ( ) They have a bolt hole on each end, and clamped around the down tubes. I cant get any pictures until Wednesday though..!

Is this with a roll bar or a full cage?

it was a cage, but the front sections are removable also.

i have seen people angle a bar down towards the front, but all of those have been welded. There is nothing to bolt it to if you dont the front bars.

I should have made it clear, weld in is fine as well. What companies make roll bars with side bars?

Have you seen this thread before?

I don't think it is a standard feature for an off the shelf roll bar. But it's pretty easy to have fabbed in. Just make sure the bar is low enough so it's not banging into your knees.

In my half-cage project, I thought about doing this. But after talking with Tyson and my fabricator, when I go to a full cage, you want the front hoop to go right down to the sill, then the side braces intersect the front hoop. So they would just be in the way.

I haven't seen any off-the-shelf units like that either. You could weld a plate on your sill with some type of receptor to anchor the front end of the bar. The back would simply drop around the main hoop and clamp. Any bar like this should be straight with no bends, IMO. That would prevent any twisting on impact that could be detrimental. Otherwise, you should weld it in. Nice to have them come out, though, even if it is a track only car, for ease of access to the cabin for any work needed. I hated crawling into my 914 once the cage was in. Of course, it was a 914, small in there to begin with.

Can you guys show me some picks of your half cages like that?
