911SC - shifter bushing replacement
Hello to all. 1983 SC - sloppy shifting, bushings were worn so I replaced them all.
I replaced the coupler a few years back and about 3000 miles ago and it's still good. Currently the trans is in neutral. I adjusted everything as per my Bentley manual but now I cannot shift into 5th or reverse. 1st - 4th is good. Adjusted it a few times but no change. I think I might have accidentally rotated the coupler while re-setting the set screw but rather than hunt and peck I thought I would reach out to the much more knowledgeable gents on this forum and ask for help. Thanks in advance for any help - Dennis |

That's almost certainly what you did. Try rotating the coupler back one spline at a time until 5-R will engage.

Facing the rear of the car: Pull the splined coupling apart and rotate the shift rod clockwise. Try one spline. If you need more, go a little further.

Yes. I have found that as little as one spline can be the difference between not reaching a gate at all and perfect shifting.
