Spacers question - don't hate me :(
 

I have a 87 with 7X15 rears and 6X15 front. I'm too not happy with the way the wheels look. Too deep into under the fenders

1. I would like to buy some bolt on spacers - what size would you recommend

2. Do spacers cause any damage if there too big?

PS: Anybody have any 8 or 9 Fuchs for sale

You would need a one inch spacer for the rear. There are 2 types of spacers: spacers and adapters. A true spacer (like the ones found on the 930) require the use of longer wheel studs, while adapters bolt to your current wheel studs and then your whees bolt on to studs on the adapter. Both options will space out the wheels, but only the true spacer using longer studs is approved for racing. I used adapters on my 911 until I was able to find a pair of 8 inch wheels. I still have them as a matter of fact, just never got around to selling them. If you want them send me a PM.

I am in the market for adapters. Are they 21mm, 27mm, 1 inch?

Bello: are you sure that you have 15" wheels? Most `87's came with 6 & 7x16.
cab83: 21mm is 1 inch.
-Keep in mind that you really need to properly torque an adapter since there is no way to check them later without taking the wheels off. Spacers are the only option if you plan to Autocross.

actually 1 inch is 25.4 mm. And no, I am not a school teacher...

I'll measure them tonight, but they are approximately 1 inch. Not sure of the manufacturer as there is no stamping on them. They are in very good shape. PM me if you're interested as I have heard nothing from Bello.

So... Just 1 inch for the rears & nothing for the fronts?

JP 911 (or anyone else) did you use any spacer once you put on the 8's. I was looking at the rear wheels on mine this morning thinking even with the 8's on I'd like the rear wheels to stick out a little more.

My $.02 From everone I have talked to have 'say' only use spacer with longer wheel studs. I have a '73 norow body and run 25 mm spacer front and rear with 7x16 with 225x16x50 all around.

Thank you for the correction. I assumed that everyone understood that almost all car product companies refer to a 21 mm spacer as a "1 inch spacer" since 4.4 mm is pretty small AND the gap between the wheel and the fender is not exactly the same from left to right on most Carerras.
Unless you are racing, you won't need to be that precise (and you really can't race on adapters)

Hehehe! Joe, in my case (actually I think all Porsche-owners), the 4.4mm do make a difference. My right fender would require rolling the lips to accomodate 28mm, but the left fender would accommodate 28mm perfectly. I had 21 mm, so 25mm would be perfect for me. Again, in my case, the extra 4mm do count. And no, I am not a woman heh heh heh!
