You only live once...
that's how I justify buying my first Porsche. (from a Pelican member) Drove it from Santa Monica to Denver with no problems. (Other than a headlight falling off when I shut my door at the gas station and a 1 speeding ticket) Every day has been like Christmas when I start my commute in my new daily driver!
My 2 new hobbies are going to be 1) learning how to drive this car (currently it scares the hell out of me as I don't know what I'm doing) and 2) how to fix her myself. Just wanted to introduce myself. Thanks in advance for the future help! Dan 87' Targa ![]() More pics... http://community.webshots.com/user/dannyvates |

Dan, congratulations on picking up a beautiful car. To get you started in your new hobby (if you haven't already), join up with PCA and the Rocky Mountain Region. We have a great bunch of people and a very active club spring through fall with driving events, tech sessions, etc. Lots of support and also here at Pelican! Check out the region's web site for lots of info at http://vista.pca.org/rmr/ .

Cool- don't lift on hard turns! awesome car- great color- love the 917 shift knob- mats are nice- carrera script is cool- id take it and drive it like a madman (safely)- oh, and you're sooo right- you only live once and man if having a 911 doesn't make it just a little bit sweeter- congrats and welcome.

Congrats and welcome! Pelican menber Grady Clay lives in your area and loves to talk working on and driving Porsches. Once you are introduced to him and know who he is, you will know why.
Seek him out right away and get out to the track to learn your car. You will enjoy it like no other and you will share an esoteric knowledge of car handling that few experience. That's why the company slogan is, " There is no substitute."Drive a 911 well and you walk a path that few have ever seen, let alone ever heard about. And, it's not that hard (he says ).BTW, don't be intimidated the the word "track." We all started out as first timers one time or another. Many of us (like me) only a few years ago, some only a few months ago. I'd rather ride with a newbie who is cognizant of the technique than someone with 1000's of miles in a 911 who hasn't ever had driver education. I didn't mean to usurp porschenut. Get with him and PCA, too, by all means. Last edited by Zeke; 02-27-2006 at 10:35 AM.. |

Dan,
Great looking car. I second the PCA idea. It is a great way to meet other Porsche folks.

Congrats
I was looking at that Targa on the forums a few months ago but the timing and location were not good for me at the time. I think on of the best rides is the 1st time taking a long cruise home from the place of purchase. Lets you become acquainted to the car. Just need to trek on down to DMV to register my Targa when I get the rest of the paperwork in. Enjoy

BTW guys, Dans parents are both daily Porsche drivers - 1995 993 and 2001 Boxster S - both in silver. Must be in the blood!
