Porsche 911 Dash Board Removal

Does any one know how to take a dash board out of a 1970 911 T Targa?

1. remove windscreen

2. lay on your back under the dash and you'll see the nuts that hold the dash in. ( sometimes it's easyer to remove the seats for access)

3. The dash has about 12 nuts and 12 plugs, that just pull out.

4. curse alot and i mean alot....

As was stated remove windshield. Cut the gasket or you may break the windshield trying to remove it. It's best to use a new gasket anyway when re-installing.

There are a total of seven nuts that secure the dash. One to the left of the gauges, two above the gauges, and four to the right of the gauges.

Pull the gauges forward out of the dash. You can leave them hooked up and hanging. It's probably a good idea to disconnect the battery before you do this. With gauges removed this allows access to the two nuts that secure the top of the dash above the instrument cluster. This also allows access to the nut to the left of the instruments and one to the right of the instruments.

The remaining three on the backside of the dash to the right of the gauges nuts can be reached by removing the hardboard panel in the trunk and accessing thru the trunk.

Also if your dash is original it will have a speaker grill. You can remove this and then remove the speaker for easier access to the backside of the dash. This will allow you to easily get to two of the nuts in the middle backside of the dash leaving just the one to the far right to be accessed from inside the trunk.

All that is left securing the dash after the seven nuts have been removed are four screws on the leading edge by the windshield and some plastic tabs that snap into the dash chassis frame near the leading perimeter. Take your time and work slowly as you can tear the dash if you force things. If the tabs break you can buy new ones. They are the same as the ones that secure the door panels.
