Fuel Distributor Leak

I took the CIS fuel distributor apart to inspect and clean while the engine was out recently and now it leaks badly where the top half meets the bottom half. That's where the thin metal plate is. Should I have used a sealant at this joint?
If so, what kind and on both side of the plate? It would have to be used very sparingly so as not to block any of the passageways in the thin plate.

It's a '74 2.7

Thanks, Dave

Having taken it apart you are likely in the market for a new or rebuilt fuel distributor:

Thanks Jim....I'll probably have to go that route or switch to EFI.
