Updated tensioners

How is it that you can tell that a car has updated tensioners? Is it in the sound? I am looking at a 83 SC. I wanted to be able to determine the basics myself for starters. I had a tech inspection on a different car and teh tech advised me that it has oil fed tensioners very early on in the inspection. I didn't want to look dumb and ask him how he knew. The only thing I can think of is the sound.

Porsche Crest

There are 2 oil lines that run to the tensioners. On that year car is was standard equipment! Earlier models need to be updated!

Ha, Hm. The hydraulic tensioners came in 1984 on the Carreras; I don't think the '83 SC had them standard.
However, look for small oil lines entering the middle of the chain cases.
No question is dumb.

Be sure to look at the drawings - there are wires that plug into the chain cover - you're looking for stiff metal pipes, which also have a brace to keep them steady.
