Tach out put help

Help, I'm racing in 2 weeks.

I have everything in my conversion from 3.2 Carrera to Euro SC complete and working except the tach. I have checked the continuity of the wiring from the 6 pin connector to the 3.2 Motec tach. It's ok.

I get no voltage at the tach with the tach hooked up and the engine running as checked with a volt meeter between the black violet connection on the tach and ground.

Does this suggest the CDI is not putting out a signal at all good or bad?

Need an SC Tach? or new CDI ?

Help

Bryan

Doesn't he 3.2 tach signal comes from the DME?

Yes but the car no longer has a DME so the tach signal comes from the CDI.

I'm just trying to find out if there is no voltage comming from the CDI does that indicate it has a bad tach circuit.

Bryan,

Didn't you get my email response? Here it is for posterity:

If the TD lead was connected to a powered-up tach at the time, and the Voltmeter was set to a 10 - 20 Volt AC range, then, yes, it does sound like D8 is blown. Luckily, that is an easy diode to find, a 1N4148! Unfortunately, 15 wires have to be unsoldered to get the board out for a proper repair. A quick fix would be to cut the leads of D8 close to the glass, and solder a replacement to the remainder of the leads, observing polarity.
Just for clarification ... in the following pic, the thick band end of diode D8 goes to the right, the circled hole indicating the Cathode end. And for those wanting the color code ... it is Yellow, Brown, Yellow, Gray ... starting at the thick band end ... 1N4148.
