Wevo, Por, TRE, and....Tiffany?

So I've been busy at work, but thought I got excited and wanted to update a few projects I've been working on :-)

Front pan from TRE is all fit and welded in. The pan took some creative work around the edges, but the shape is great, and I was glad I didn't have to custom make the whole thing!

Second project was replacing the cheasy stock sway bar mounts in the rear with the Wevo cast pieces. The grinding off of the old ones and cutting out of the fuel pump tray took a while, but the plasma cutter helped out!

Once the old ones were ground out, I fit the Tarrett rear bar to the wevo mounts, positioned it using a spare jack (as I was working alone) and tack welded both sides in. I made sure the sway bar spun freely, then welded bit by bit each side until they were set - not too bad at all!

Wheel wells....

the grinding of the undercoating has progressed very well. The front passenger side got por-15'd with a coat of black, then a coat of gray. Here's the gray....

The plan is to por the whole underside, then clean and come back over with self-etch primer, topcoat it all and glisten PC for some shine!

She did!!!

So, I'm engaged - exciting week!

The happy couple right after I proposed (cliffs of Del Mar)

Of course, I haven't ridden my bike in forever, so she was kicking my butt (made it an even better experience for her :-) )!

Congrats to you and your fiance, Cali!

Great project too.

One point. I believe self etching primer is meant to use over bare metal. It seems you're looking to use it on POR15. I could be wrong so perhaps ohters will chime in. Good luck.

She's the best upgrade you can make! After 25 years of marriage I'm not looking back! I hope your fiance is as "understanding" as my wife is when it comes to our "habit".

Nice work on the car as well.

Best of luck.

Thanks guys!!, I knew there were a bunch of others out there who can appreciate the beauty of both the marriage...AND the devotion to the car :-)

The fiance is very understanding of the work/money involved in the car, as long as I don't put it first when I shouldn't.

oh yeah...por self-etch primer is the only primer recommended on top of cured por-15. I used it on the gas tank and it worked well. Any primer can be used on semi-dry por-15, but this is for the cured stuff :-)

http://www.por15.com/PRODUCTS/PRIMERPAINTSCOATINGS/PRIMERS/SELFETCHINGPRIMER/tabid/131/Default.aspx
"With this product, you can even topcoat POR-15 that’s been in place for months or years."

Also if you notice the unevenness on the color of the gray por-15...that comes from the difficulty in getting an even 2nd and third coat with the high surface tension of this stuff. It makes a difference how dry the previous layer was. In this case I should have thinned a little to get better flow. It won't matter here, but if this was the final layer I'd care.

Congratulations Matt on your engagement!

The project is coming along nicely as well! I'll look forward to seeing it on the run up to GAF. BTW, which plasma did you get?

Congrats on the engagement!...now let's get back to that car:

How are you mounting the center oil cooler to the nose panel? I'm especially curious because the cooler is much narrower than the width of the dam. How are you going to seal the cooler to the dam to force all of the flow through the cooler?

Thanks.
