Everyone wants to play with the Porsches
Maybe its just me, Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Lexus, Infinity, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Subaru the list goes on. Maybe its Porsche History. Just the other day on the freeway I'm cruising 65 mph in fourth gear moderate traffic with my sixteen year old son. I look in my mirror I see a red Audi trying to catch up. Its a new A6, he's along side me and accelerates pass me. My son looks at me and says what the hell was that. I said he wants to prove his car is faster. My son says is it, I say might be. In the mean time he is slowing down and along side me again I said smile and give the thumbs up. My 1981 911SC maybe be pushing 200 hp maybe. Some of those cars mentioned are putting out 300 to 500 hp and turbo charged. I think my stock SC is fast but more likely those other cars are considerably faster than mine.
So in conclusion everytime there is a challenge I smile and give the thumbs up and think to my self it must be the Porsche History haunting them. IMHO |

Nothing new. It is just how it is. I actually have gotten the "I worship you" from a VW guy before he sped off. I consider my car quick and good for traffic in/out. I know that Porsches aren't the fastest cars on the road but they sure get the looks. I consider it flattering.

It's a constant. I usually think to myself...."I'm to old for this crap" and let them get frustrated and speed off. I think they are all jealous.
No matter what, I'm driving a Porsche and they're not! I agree with your methods.

I thought my '91 MR2 brought out the "Ayrton" or "Mario" out of people on the road, but the 911 seems to take that to another level. I've even gotten mofos in minivans and even a U-Haul truck tailing me and then runnin' along side, and doing that whole thing over there like that.

A local auto journalist was loaned a Porsche Turbo to test drive. He took it to a restaurant and watched peoples reaction from his booth inside. Two roller bladers came by and they both went to their knees in a bowing salute.
Yea, there really is something there. But, I think 'Vettes get the same reaction from some people. My wife says my eyes take on a very different look when I talk about mine or any Porsche. It's a Porsche, hands down the most successful race car of all time.

Moke81, I like your approach with the thumbs-up. People like acknowledgement even if they don't get the pleasure of flooring it.
It would be fun to have a badge to flash at times like those - just to get their reaction, but it wouldn't be worth the possible penalty.

Moke81,I too liked how you handled that. Here in the Bay Area I also find myself saying,"what are you doing" Porsches are definately attention grabbers.

I have an NOS kit to fit onto a Porsche engine. I've thought about selling it, but also think about installing it into my car. I have some mods that I think will enable it to handle the extra kick. I always thought it would be fun see what would happen in a situation like that.

You do the right thing! I will not race on the street. Just not safe, that is why they make tracks. I always do like you and acknowledge the fact they have a nice car. I could care less if someone can out run me to the next light. I have had the pleasure of getting the point by many a time at the track from most of these cars in stock form. Modified properly is another story, but they are "quick" on the street and only "okay" on the track. I have seen some properly modified at the track and they were very competent cars, just like our Porsches with similar mods.
Cheers
