Paul:
What does "knocking the plug down" mean? Is that the little steel plug that is at the anchor end of the bi-metallic strip?

Not much progress this evening. My 11 year old Optima battery is having trouble from the abuse it got. Need to charge it overnight. PO did good buying that Optima.

Well, whatever knocking the plug means, I knocked it. CCP is at 20, and at 48 warm. Decel valve is reconnected. Didn't get as far as the AAR/AAV. No hunting. Now, to find a CO meter.

For those of you following along at home, I couldn't help but to try and improve what I have. So, I took the WUR out again, drilled and tapped it, and made it adjustable. It is tough to adjust cold because of the short window of opportunity; I'll try it again in the morning. I did adjust it warm, and have it set at 50 PSI warm.

It was still a bit tough to start earlier this evening, I had to crank it for 10 seconds or so. It used to start immediately. I still need to check the cold start valve, but it appears this is on the front side of the CIS system, which requires Harry Houdini-like contortions to get at.

Engine is coming out in another month anyway for power band adjustments, so I'll deal with it then.

It's not terribly difficult to remove the CSV, I remove the throttle body and have enough clearance to get back there and pull it out, I would start with the easier tests first. Check the connection at the starter, and then check the thermotime switch, lastly check the plastic plug. In my case the plug was old and making poor contact.

I would however mention that I had the same starting issue as you just drescribed and it was of all things a crack in my airbox. My mixture was so screwed up to compensate for the leak that it was causing my cold/hot start issues.

After I replaced the airbox, CSV connector, WUR, injectors and bungs, along with vacuum lines I get a fast start every time, then a few min's of high idle as the system gently settles down to a perfect idle.

*A lot of thanks to "Porschepaul" in my case for answering all of my dumb CIS posts.
