How many Speedster owners here?
Having recently purchased my car I was wondering how many other board members own either the '89 version or later.
Speedster stories and pics would be welcome. Mainly I'd like to see other cars like mine and gain some knowledge as to various issues unique to this vehicle. Having just changed out the pull down cable for the roof cover, maybe others can share similar stories. ![]()

Where are you located? I saw a beautiful speedster exactly like yours driving through Willow Glen a couple of weeks ago. Congrats on the purchase, great find.

BigMan -- congrats on your purchase. Looks like a beautiful car. Unfortunately for me, the speedster is till on my long term 'buy lust (sp).
It'd be cool to find how many of the 1500 (prox I think) '89 + 94 speedsters are Pelicanites. Maybe your post will answer that question. And welcome to the board, Jeremy

87coupe, I'm in Toronto Canada so I'm sure it wasn't me but thanks for the comment
![]() jjwood, I absolutely love the car. I had been looking so long but as there are so few around and almost none in Canada, when this one came up there was no question as to purchasing it. Last time I checked there were only 17 '89 Speedster's registered in Canada (mine included in this number) I started to wonder just how many of the 800 or so '89's that came to North America are owned by guys who hang around this board. Feel free to correct my numbers on this if anyone has more current information. BTW, having been involved with high performance sports cars for quite some time, I have to say that the group on this board is the most helpful, mature and complementary bunch I have ever come across. Thanks for the welcome.

Very nice, BigMan_99. Welcome to Pelican.
Another Toronto dweller here. But a Cab not Speedster. If you are into runs, watch for the SW Ontario threads. We have done 2 nice runs so far this year. A great bunch of Ontario Pelicanheads lurk around. Ian

I have # 350, 1989 triple black that I restored. I am the 3rd owner. The 1st owner used it as a daily driver and consequently it had 82K when I bought it. With the help of Prisitne Motorsports in Huntington Beach we basically redid the car replacing the wheels, seats, shocks brakes, muffler, windshield (ouch!) all rubber, carpets. It is now in close to perfect condition. I am also a member of the Great Britan Speedster owner's club. Murf

I don't own one but when I was looking for Porsches to buy back in 1997 I went to a guys house that had a sweet 84 cab he picked up at the factory that he was selling. He also had a brand new All black Speedster that was never titled and had about 50 miles on it.
He said in 89 they were bringing way over sticker and he was offered 20K over what he paid when it came in. Well he held out and that bubble burst. How much were they new ? and what are they bringing now ? |

New, weren't they ('89 Speedster) around $65-$70K or so? I don't remember.
I do remember at one point the market value was around $110-$120 as speculators stepped in and drove it up. I think that's why you see so many low mileage ones. These days they seem to be in the $50-$60K range. I love the '89 Speedster. It's my favorite of all of the '80s 911s. My head swivels like that chick in The Exorcist when one passes my on the road. |

The 1989 Speedster is an exceptional car, and Bigman's appears to be a great example. One thing has always bugged me about them though: The fender-mounted antenna! I think they look out of place on a 911, and even more so on a Speedster.
All those beautiful lines/curves interrupted by an eyesore on the right front fender. ![]() I thought they were supposed to be minimalist-type cars anyway, so why even provide a radio as standard equipment? Or, if the radio must stay, why not integrate the antenna into the windshield like all the other 1985+ 911s? That aside, I think they are one of the most visually stimulating 911's out there (so lets see some more pics Bigman!!). ![]() |

The antenna dosen't make sense to me either, but I busted my butt trying to find an original one to make my car completely stock. They sold new in the mid $60's and today range from high $30's with miles to the one Dick Sloan has for $125K (27 original miles). I learned the hard way to leave the convertible top down as it marks up the clamshell when it is up (at least on black) and trying to find the replacement adhesive material that goes on the clamshell was a pain, but was solved by one of the board members here who reccomended wing walk material used on aircraft which is identical to the 3m material that was used by the Porsche and no longer available.

Many of you already know my speedster story. I lusted after one of the 1994 964 speedsters from the moment I saw one. In 1995 I bought one with 6 k miles on it. White with all black interior the Recaro seats and silver wheels not body colored wheels. I owned it for 2 years before it was stolen out of my garage on 14th Street in Santa Monica just off Montana. I am sure the trash guys case common underground garages that go with the townhouses in that area, when they empty the dumpsters. Both my speedster and my bike were stolen one morning while I was surfing at Topanga Point. The CHP found the car the next morning and I was very excited when they called to tell me. The officer then gave me the bad news, the car was found in El Monte totally stripped and then burned. They never found the bike, the CHP said it was probably in Mexico within a few hours of being stolen.
