dash pad, old school felt or pay up for nice pad?
Hey all,
just wondering if I should replace my cracked nasty cork colored dash pad with a nicer black one that matches the rest of my interior or if I should cover the pad with felt like the old school Porsche race cars. fyi, if you have not seen my car...it is a bit of a bastard. RS interior, etc. oh...and I may backdate it sometime soon. just looking for opinions/ideas. anyone got a nice black dash pad for an SC? or some felt for sale? LOL Kyle. |

I like Chuck Moreland's. Check out July24 Headliner and Dash
http://www.elephantracing.com/project/babbar/projectmonterey.htm It's not shiny. The only catch to recovering is to make sure the cracks are not "high" points, so they can be seen through the vynal. If they've come apart, or up, they may need to be sanded down or filled with something. Chuck gave me the info on the covering at one point, but I don't remember what it was. However, he did say it scuffs rather easily.

Hey, that is really nice. Any idea what the material is, or how hard it is to do? I wonder if I could do it without taking off the front window...

In order to do it right you will have to remove the windscreen and remove the dash. The repair and recover should not take any good upholstery shop more then a few hours. also use a marine vinyl as they are uv and sunfast rated. I charge from 150.00 depending on the condition of the pad.

This gives me a great idea.... want the durability of the plastic cap, but I'll recovor it and the knee cushions in a dull vinyl......

You can ask Chuck. He hangs out on this board. Or you can contact him though his site. Elephantracing.com
He also has some whammy suspension products.

thank you. it's not a bad job, but you need patience. only do a section at a time so that next day, when it's dry, you can pull/stretch the fabric in another direction w/o problems.
