Talking Hammer is coming to Irvine!

Guys. Short notice I know. I will be in Irvine over the weekend to look at housing and thought Saturday night we could meet some Pelicans for dinner. I am bringing my wife Becky and we are interested to talking to some non-corporate people about the area. PM me your phone #’s and we can set something up. Any suggestions for good food at a reasonable price?

Shawn,
Got your message yesterday. I wish I could make it down for dinner on Saturday but we will be celebrating my youngest 2nd birthday. Probably get myself into some trouble if I skipped out on that.
Have a safe trip and we will talk soon.

Dan,
I know what you mean. Family first. Besides it's not exactly next door for you. I just got the plane tickets today and Bec is scrambling to find a kennel to hold the dogs.

"Good food, reasonable price" in Irvine, something says those don't go together. It's like "nice house, reasonable price", I dont think that's going to happen in California either. But good luck in your search.

First of all thanks to Ralph and his family for dinner and letting us hang out at their home. We really appreciate the hospitality.

A few observations from a mid-westerner…
1) ALOT of people drive around alone.
2) People have expensive tastes in cars.
3) Back yards are more like patios than yards.
4) Everything is mega clean.
5) Home prices border on phsycotic.
6) Home prices border on phsycotic.
7) Seem to be alot of furniture stores in industrial parks?
8) Toll road pricing is double.
9) Grocery stores are hard to find.

What's the conclusion? So are you moving?
The weather wasn't as inviting as most weekends in March.

I'm an hour + south of Irvine.

We lucked out as there was a gas station right across the street. But now that you mention it we didn't see any other stations.

We kept hearing about the weather while we were there. If that is as bad as it gets sign me up!

Hammer hoped Jimmy would get it.

You do not HAVE to look to live just in Irvine. Surrounding cities are just as nice (and expensive). Ladera Ranch is near Mission Viejo south of Irvine. Great place if you have a family, but the Mello Roos payments will kill ya. I paid over $15k in property taxes and mello roos last year (not counting HOA dues)!!! That sucked. Needless to say I sold the house for a very nice profit, got a job with Amgen, and am moving back home to Fresno. Houses are 1/2 or more less there (with a 4 car garage!). I will however miss the weather and the other great things about So Cal. You will love it down here if you can get over the cost of living. I hope your employer gave you a cost of living increase $$$.
You should shoot out to California Motorspeedway some time during the weekend. We have a race there Fri, Sat, Sun. It is about an hour East from Irvine.

Chad we looked all around Irvine as well. We kind of liked Lake Forest. Details will follow. I am not 100% yet but if it works out I will be putting a lot more miles on the 911 in the near future….
