911 SC weight and HP ?

Hey I've been having trouble finding out the weight of the SC coupe and targa tops. Also i read that the 1978 SC had 180 hp 1979 188 hp and 1980-83 204 hp. I also read that the 204 hp was only on the euro version. Can anyone clairfy this?

According to Bruce Anderson's "Porsche 911 Performance Handbook" all American SC's were 180 HP, 175 ft/lbs torque.
The Rest of the World (ROW) SC's are 1980-188hp, 1981-83 204hp.
PCA rules show the minimum weight for all SC's to be 2552 pounds. I would guess with accessories that weight could go up 200-300 pounds.
There probably is other info out there which might refine this.

The earliest SC test I can find is from Car and Driver - 1978, which has a Targa as weighing 2630. I don't know what the usual difference is between a Targa and a Coupe, but I'd venture to say maybe 100 lbs., making the Coupe a 2500-pound car in '78.

The latest test from Car and Driver in 1980, where a coupe weighed in at 2700.

These are U.S. tests BTW.

Horsepower and torque for all U.S. SCs, unless you want to split hairs, was the same across the board. The compression in the U.S.-spec 3.0 engine was raised in 1981 from 8.5:1 to 9.3:1 to increase driveability. Also, the intake runners were decreased from 38mm to 34mm, again to create more low-end torque.

Some have said the increase in weight comes from options that became standard on the later SCs - such as sunroof, a/c, electric window lifts (possibly).

What's interesting apart from the cars, is how much their MSRPs increased. In five model years, the increase, as these tests show, was almost $10K.

a factory SC won't weigh 2550#...2750 is closer to reality. I had to ditch a lot of crap out of my car to get it below 2600#

I suggest you look at the Car and Driver 1978 test of the Targa, which weighed 2630. Targas are heavier than Coupes, right?

Or maybe yours was particularly porky.

Earlier this year at the Vancouver Pelican meeting we had a chance to weight our cars on the truck scale that is said to be very accurate.

Measured weight is self explantory. Dry weight is my calculation for your car with no fuel. Curb weight is my calculation for your car with a full tank of fuel.

I assumed 0.9 kg/L for fuel , and 60 L fuel tanks.. There are 2.205 lbs in a kg Here we go:

1280 | 86 911 coupe | 66% | rob | 1244 (2743) | 1298 (2862)

1280 | 87 911 coupe | 25% | jorian | 1267 (2793) | 1320 (2911)

1220 | 83 911 targa | 50% | won | 1202 (2650) | 1238 (2730)

1340 | 94 968 | 33% | kevin | 1322 (2915) | 1376 (3033)

1390 | 89 951 | 100% | paul | 1336 (2738) | 1336 (2738)

1340 | 82 DP935 | 75% | jeff | 1300 (2867) | 1354 (2984)

1220 | 82 911 coupe | 75% | jason | 1180 (2602) | 1234 (2720)

1370 | 87 951 | 80% | owain | 1327 (2926) | 1381 (3045)

1300 | 86 944 | 50% | brendan | 1273 (2807) | 1337 (2948)

1340 | 92 968 | 50% | rich | 1313 (2895) | 1367 (3014)

1300 | 05 Subaru 2.5 RS | 75% | jasper | 1255 (2767) | 1320 (2910)
Mine was all stock with tools, spare, targa top, sans A/C stuff from the back. Jason's '82 had Cup wheels which are heavier than Fuchs and, I believe, the A/C still intact.

Just some data points!

Oh, is it true that the late 83 cars with Carrera case had a bit more "oooooomph"? It's a direct quote, can't remember where it's from though.
