Oil Cross Over Pipe Mounting Bracket
Because the large nut that fastens this cross over pipe to the underside of the engine will not be accessable after I mount the SSI's, I'm concerned where the (photo arrow) mounting bracket will attach and whether I have the cross over pipe aligned where it should be for that bracket mounting hole to line up.
So, any pics or descriptions where this bracket will attach? Thanks! Jim ![]()

You may have already done this, but I would check the mounting of the SSIs to see if the cross-over pipe will interfere with the Heater boxes, or vice versa. I have done a couple of these installations where even with the best possible mounting of the cross-over interfered, and I had to slighly re-engineer the shape of the SSI heater boxes with a ball-pein hammer. I think the bracket was intended to attach to the engine tin. But many of the cross-overs being supplied these days don't seem to have the bracket in much of an optimum place to directly attach it to any existing bolt. I've had to fab an intermediate bracket to attach it to the engine tin, which seemed to me to be the best place.
Hope this helps,

Jim,
This isn't a closeup, but if you look on the right side of my engine (left side of the pic) you can see the crossover pipe with blue tape on the end and where the fastener locates on the engine tin. ![]()

Hi Bob,
Yep, I know that's the place the bracket is supposed to attach. What I was trying to say, maybe not so clearly, is that only in one case did I have the bracket appear to be in the right place on the oil line to attach to the engine tin at the designated place. I think many of the oil lines must be now aftermarket built and not OE Porsche parts. BTW, nice clean engine........

Hey Jim Williams! Sorry about the ambiguity of addressing my post to Jim..I was intending Jim (Goldgunner) and his request for a pic. What you had to say was clear and good advice.
...and thanks for the kind comment!

I completed the installation of the cross over pipe and the SSI's this afternoon. The only position of the pipe that would permit the SSI's mounting was in the pipe's 'extreme' most position: that is with the first small bend of the pipe against the cylinder baffle tin and and the large curve essentially resting against the utmost end of the block.
In that position, the SSI's would both mount well. I expect, as Jim Williams noted, to have to wrestle the J-pipe mounting bracket to it's place on the tin...that is, when i get the top stuff on: shroud yet to be delivered, tin, manifolds, etc. Thanks All!
