Large Blower Motor in Engine Compartment

I plan to install headers on my 79SC and want to remove all heating related equipment to save weight. Is the blower motor motor for blowing fresh air and heated air into the cabin? Can it be removed without effecting engine cooling? Any tips on blocking off the two holes in the bottom left and right sides of the engine compartment, where the warm air from the heat exhangers enters?

Cheers John

great improvement to the car. Lots of people here have done it. search for back date heating, etc.
You might miss your heat in Calgary in the winter though.
