Scouring 4 Barns and no luck so far....

With all the excitment here lately - I got the bug and decided to head into the area I knew with the highest 'Barn' concentration. I have been hoping to find a '66 911 that I might restore to concours - but am losing patience quickly with the search.

Advice : Any advice would be welcome. Such as, what is the key to tilting the odds in my favor ?

I don't require an 'S' like the folks who have been turning them up around here like hotcakes. No, even a 'T' would do rather nicely .

So far - this is what I've uncovered:

.................................................. ....15 Bales of Hay
.................................................. .....4 John Deere Tractors
.................................................. .....6 Grain supply bins
.................................................. .....4 bins of Barley
.................................................. .....1/2 dozen Goats

AND NO VINTAGE PORSCHE ! (Well, there was one 930 that was parked out back of one but it wasn't for sale.)

Apparently, this will demand much more perserverance than I originally expected.
:( ................:(

Don't give up your search. I got my first 911 today, but it wasn't from a barn.

It takes patients with a war chest at hand $$ and good old luck.
Plus a nose for these things helps. Some guys are better at finding good stuff than others.

Oh, and don't forget to ask the farmer daughter. The good looking ones can be helpfull at finding stuff.

I searched the same county for 5 years before I found mine. I looked on almost every road imaginable. I found it by complete accident and am stoked that I found it.

Good hunting to all that wish to find one. I never thought I would quote the X-Files, but, "they are out there".

if you don't find a Porsche, you still might find a Ferrari or Lambo as a consolation prize...

I found a Porsche parked outside a barn during the winter. It was snow covered and couldn't really tell what it was. Well today I was back over in the same area and it is a Slantnose wide body Porsche Coupe. I don't know if it runs or what year it is or if it's a factory slantnose/wide body or not. I was going to knock on the door but I already have two of them and the wife would kill me if I showed up at the door with a third one that needs work. So why waste this guys time right now. I figured I know where it is and unless someone beats me to it I'm just going to watch it for a while. Then when I'm ready and have been approved for the purchase then I'll knock on the door.

But they are out there.......

Barn finds are best found by word of mouth. Tell everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY you know, that you're looking for old Porsches. I've found many a "barn find" that way.

And yes, they are still out there...

Honestly, I've found that finding classic and vintage cars (911's included) is a lot like stepping in dog*****. It just happens one day when you're not expecting it. My brother found mine in a carport, where it had sat for nearly 10 years. He then proceeded to lowball (1/3 of the asking price!) the guy, and left with the car. Some years later, I ended up with it.

Ok I may as well add my barnfind story here.

About 4 years ago I was interested in bidding on a 1972 911t coupe that was on ebay. I ended up calling the guy and arranging to see it before bidding.
While there the guys starts telling me about this crazy man 10 miles north of him that has a 911 junkyard but wont sell the parts. I get directions and an address and off I went .
All I could say was WOW ! This old bastard had 13 (as I recall) 911 cars sitting with tree`s growing through them. He told me if I want to buy them its all or nothing. He actually took most every car apart and stored all the parts indoors in his 2 barns. He said he used to buy , repair, restore 911 cars in the 70`s and 80`s .
He wanted $60k for all of it . Honestely it was $60k worth in parts. I told him $15k after a thorough look . I was impressed with the stock of parts. He had the complete remains of over 50 early cars (all 911/912) including two S engines. He had 16 triple weber carbs, 15 type 915 trannies. Two BAE turbo kits , etc , etc.
The cars were shot but still had quite a few nice parts. Oh forgot to mention 3 early sport seats too.
Well after 6-8 months of him slowly dropping the price I agreed to $15,500 for everything. It took me 3 months to transport all this stuff and the first run was with a 26` uhaul moving truck. I took 9 of the cars including a DP 935 that was also in the barnand now owned and being restored by pelican member "Nikita76".
It was a barn find of all barn finds. Im still ebaying those parts to this day. I kept all the rare stuff though. Here is a few pictures of that first day I went. The stumpy guy with the glasses was the seller. I didnt get pics of the inside on the big barn but these will give you an idea.
