LA/SD/SOCG: How about a March Run/Drive??
To my fellow local and not so local Porsche owners, it time to start the planning for a March run. Let me know if your interested and if what days so we can start eliminating dates. So far my weekends are pretty clear. Our record is currently 22 cars, if you guys step up to the plate, we may be able to top it this time.

Is this the run that usually meets down in San Juan Cap and takes a run over Ortega Hwy?

This would be that run, the usual Ortega highway run with a twist or actually a few twists. We meet at the Starbucks on the left hand side after exiting the 5 freeway.

I am free the 11-12 or possibly the 18-19 (may go to Mammoth).

The 25-26th is no good for me. Also, Sundays are tougher than Saturdays but otherwise I'm game.

![]() ![]() ![]() I am definitely ready for another run. Heck, I've done a couple of solo Ortega runs just because. I'm good for the 12th, 18th or 19th. Dan, are you going to join us this time? We'd love to have you along. |

I love doing these runs, really I do, but with the traffic we get it kind of takes the wind out of my sails at times. I know I have said this before but can we at some point try to make an SOCG run to this?
OTR at Willow Springs -- March 8 So much safer not to mention you actually get to drive as fast as you can handle. No pun inteded. (by the way, I have no ties to this event other then just loving the track) One last thing: There is a decent amount of driving instruction at this event INLCUDED with the fee, and if weekdays are no good for you I would strongly urge you to try the POC enets, it's a great club with driving instruction as one of it's main components. Jeez, I feel like I'm selling crack here guys, "just try it, everyone else is doing it" beleive me you will get hooked on this.

Big...,
I want to go to the track so bad it hurts. The problem for me and most of the cab guys is we need rollbars to go. You guys with the coupes and Targas just show up with your stock cars and have some fun. Those of us with Cabs have to buy and install a rollbar first. Not cheap. One of these days maybe. PS - You know what really sucks about this? In the UK, where the Porsche crowd are fanatical about their "track days", they can bring their bone stock cabs to the big tracks and just have fun. Not here in the land of lawsuits. Sigh. |

Alright, you have motivated me to work some overtime and save for a rollbar. It may take a couple of months but it sounds worth it.
Overtime is the only way my wife is OK with the purchase of a rollbar for my toy. My job pays the overtime at the end of the following month in which it was done, so overtime done this month won't be paid to me until the end of next month, so it'll be a couple of months until I can do the rollbar but at least I'll work toward it for a change. I think Jeremy has a removable rollbar in his car. I'll have to PM him with the details. Anyway, back on topic... Maybe we should plan a different route this time. I'm a little bored / fed up with Ortega and all of it's traffic. How about a Big Bear run (backside) or a run up to Palomar, or Angeles Crest, etc.. I know those runs take a lot longer but they'd be worth it, imo. Last edited by 450knotOffice; 03-01-2006 at 10:20 PM.. |

Glad to hear you will make a small sacrifice to do what you really want to do with your car and that's drive it like it was made to be driven. By the way a used one might be foudn for a bit less so maybe it wont take as long to save up for it.
In regards to a new route, I'm all for it, maybe we should spice up the action with an actual SOCG Rally, a round trip say from The begining of Ortega to "X" location with some kind of goal and rules, like "No driving more then "15MPH" over the speed limit on residential roads and "No driving over 20MPH over the speed limit on the highway, this way it becomes more of a drivers event. Back when I was driving with my Jeep friends, we would at the last minute randomly select a destination and eash person would have to come up with their own route and who ever go there last would buy lunch for the other 4 of us. It was kind of fun but probably more so because it was off road for the most part. (if not we made it off-road)

As usual...I'll show up unexpectedly. However, Saturday’s are better for me.
Big, are you going to the Willow Springs event on Wednesday, March 8? I’m considering but there’s rain in the forecast.

Hi!
I agree with a new run. I like the sound of the palomar run. Jason (I think?) said it's a great drive and no traffic on the back side. I would like to host a run in the San B mountains, but I'm not sure what the road conditions are like this time of year. I've almost pooped my pants a few times driving over run-off (read:ice) in the shadows. In anycase, I only have the 11th and 25th week-ends at this point. If I'm here, I'll be there!! Brad
