Battery draining past point of recharging
I moved to SC and left my 1989 911 Carrera on consignment in NJ when I had it shipped down the shipper jump started it and it was stone dead when I tried to start it. I replaced the battery 3 months ago drove the car several times and after sitting for 2 weeks it was dead and the battery was replaced under warranty as the voltage was too low to recharge. We have checked the alternator with the new battery installed and it is coming up OK any suggestions ??

Check for "stand-by" ( car off) losses..... cars in the 80's had a 16 milli-amp ( spec) standby loss ( clock, alarm)...the later 964's had a 65 mA figure....
You don't say the model year of your car. Anything over 100 mA...some say 300 mA, for any car...would lead me to chase things down. - Wil

Car is a Targa with 128000 mi. engine top end rebuilt about 2000 miles ago, chip tuned, high performance dual exhaust. The battery that was originally replaced had a bad cell and was a little over a year old.

If a battery goes flat, then gets cold, often thats it, done deal.
If you aren't able to cheack drain, just get a cheap VOM meter at Radio Shack for $25 or so, and check voltage often. If you see it dropping, disconnect it and keep checking. Thats the low tech "Is my car draining my battery?" check, LOL>
