The "shot" heard round the County-Happy Ending

A couple of weeks ago, I was headed to a DE in the rain at 5:00am on a Saturday. I stopped at a drive-thru ATM for cash, and as I pulled out from under the canopy, a wall of water hit the ducktail, and "killed" the motor. I cranked periodically for about 10 minutes, with nothing until a HUUUUGGGGEEE "explosion" and the sucker fired up. It scared the heck out of me-I've never heard a backfire that loud. PS-I have the infamous Clewett wires, which have never been a problem-my new Magnecors are enroute. I don't like getting stranded.

The car was running "OK", but I heard what I thought to be an exhaust leak, and it just seemed a little "off song". I did 3 wet sessions that day, but decided to go home, as I was concerned.

She's been parked since I got my 928 , but I dropped the header today, and was very pleased to see a blown gasket. I really didn't think this could happen, as I know the headers were tight, but I'll take this as the problem. At any rate, took her for a spirited drive today, and it's great to have her back to health! What a different ride than the 928! They both have their missions, however. Here's the gasket, and the corresponding "tattoo" on the flange:

Its it great to find out that it wasnt like a pitson hitting a valve or something more serious. I breathe a sigh of relief with you Ed.

Wow, I wonder what could have caused that? I thought motronics didn't do that.

Well the wet plug wires are what killed it, then after cranking it for some time, or from when it died, accumulated fuel in the chamber that ignited.
