Middle Year Gemini Metallic

I'm considering taking my 74 back to the original color: Gemini Metallic (#335-9-3) I can't seem to find a photo of a middle year car in this color. I've found photos of earlier cars, but would like to see it on my body style before a I commit. Does anyone have a photo to offer? Thanks in advance!

Here is a link to a 73 911E with Gemini Blue Metallic. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the thread reference. I've seen this car and several others for the "long hood" years, but I can't find an "impact bumper" car in this color.

I'm probably making too big a deal out of this. Just seems like the folks on this board have valuable information on just about everything. Thought I'd ask and see.

Makes me wonder if this color wasn't very popular after the early years.

Does your car have chrome trim? Sorry no pictures but I think a '74 with chrome trim in Gemini Blue would be gorgeous. I'd do it.

Maffett 03-17-2006 01:27 PM

My car does have chrome trim.

I'm warming up to the idea of a blue car. I bought it in guards red 15 years ago in my racier youth.

Now, both the car and I need a change. At first I was thinking silver, but my paint guy saw the original blue under the carpet and suggested I consider it.

I like the thought of being original. And neither the car or I feel guards red anymore. I'm just not sure if I can go as far as blue.

I'd say definitely go back to original if you're already planning a high quality repaint. I did including all new rubber and backdating from big bumperettes to '74 narrows, etc. and I am very happy I did so after seriously considering a change from Sahara Beige to Contintental Orange (which I stil love).

I don't have a picture of the color you want but I have this one from last Fall's German Autofest in Verntura. Not sure the name but this car with chrome trim is just too beautiful. If yours would look close to this it would be spectacular.

Thanks for the Photo Dan. That is a pretty car. I am going to put a great deal of effort into the project, though just for personal satisfaction - not for show. The view I would really like to see in this color is a front shot of a impact bumper car.

Dan in Pasadena 03-18-2006 07:30 AM

Yeah, sorry. I looked through all my photos and I couldn't find anything close. Your question peaked my curiosity as I have a 76 with the same bumpers. I think they would look awesome in this color particularly if you still had the chrome trim. If you do ever find a picture (or if you do your car that way) please post the results.

Maffett 03-18-2006 07:59 AM

Dan, thanks for looking - I'll post progress photos when available.

By the way, how about a new thread asking for a Photoshop job? Post a photo of your car and one of these Gemini shots.....better than nothing.

I had to shrink the hell pout of that one but I could post a larger better version...maybe if the system will let me!

This is 90% of the size I have. The most it would let me post. Good luck, Dan

That's a great idea. Although I'm not real excited about showing what it looks like right now. "Reddish" is a good representation of its present condition. It has quite a bit of grey primer now in areas that were rusted. I'm not sure if the "quilted" look would make for a difficult photoshop job. Doesn't hurt to ask. I've seen some very nice photoshop productions on this board.

maffett..definitely go back to original. i bet that you'll love the color and the cost of the paint will be partly offset in my opinion by the increase in value. our earlier cars are appreciating every day..examples closest to 'original' command the higher values. and i second the previous comment..will look superb with chrome trim. did you say what color the interior is and is it still original?

Maffett 03-18-2006 10:28 AM

BigChill, Thanks for the encouragement. I have no idea about the originality of the interior. The carpet and all padding is black. The headliner is (was) white (now almond due to several decades of smoking no doubt - its on the list to be replaced). The seats are black (vinyl?) with red fabric center panels. I wonder if I will need to change them to something that will go with the blue. Or maybe red will go with blue? How would I find out if they are orginal?

bigchillcar 03-18-2006 10:35 AM

not too sure i've seen that particular fabric pattern you describe, but it was no doubt done when the car was painted red? i think there's a code somewhere on the car for the interior, but not certain. if you try hard and can't come up with the info, i'm sure all black would work..no way i'd keep the red..black's the most readily available and would be the cheapest route cost-wise. we really need to find out the original interior though i think.

Any suggestions to find out the original configuration would be appreciated. Would the COA provide this info? I've gotten the impression that buying the COA is NOT (rather than "now") worth the cost.

bigchillcar 03-18-2006 10:55 AM

maffett..i'm going to say that the coa doesn't provide details on the interior group. what about your manual? do you have the original? it might indicate something. i may try a search to find out where we can find this info.
ryan

Maffett 03-18-2006 11:04 AM

I do have the original manual, and if memory serves me, it says "black", though this is not very official, only a hand written note by the origianl owner. (maybe I should try to contact him....find out what prompted the change to red, if he knows). I'll have to check the manual again to be sure. I don't have it with me at the moment.

i found this small thread, among a few others. one thing i came across says that the vin sticker inside of your manual will have all the option codes, presumably including the interior. i'd check it.
