Don't take your car to a racetrack just yet if this is your first 911. Get a feel for it on the street, then do an autocross or two. Then get to a track. These cars handle funny at the limit and will bite you if you're not ready and careful.

What ZOANAS said.

No matter what you do (except maybe for over blowing) the Carrera will never be a drag racer. However, when it comes to fast, fun driving around the bends, its outstanding - and have more potential than most of us are able to explore. Hence, drivers skill is more important than the few extra ponies that can be extracted from its n/a engine.

I have a ´85 euro without cat and 231 hp - and it sure is more than I will ever be able to handle to full potential.

That said, exhaust modifications and SW chip is probably your best bet.

After reading some of the other replies to this thread concerning performance upgrades, I have to say that those who say the driver is the weakest link are RIGHT.
I have the SW chip, euro pre-muff and sport muffler and these are great. I have also 4 new Koni's and freshly welded sway bar mount, these improvements make it drive like a different car.

But last Sunday during a spirited mountain drive here in SC and NC, I turned to my wife, who was about to rip the door handle off, and said.......wow this car will do far more than I know how to do with it. I have learned a few things about the handling of the 911 but still I am the weakest part of the performance of this car:eek:

Yep, I agree totally with everyone's assessment about this aspect. If I could just order an upgrade for my 'aftermarket American driver' from Pelican...I'd be set :)!

I'll also recommend a few autocrosses first - then DE - the look at upgrades. Check your sway bar mounts - many are cracked these days. From there - bigger wheels and tires along with suspension.

The best upgrade is the nut behind the wheel - from there the sky is the limit.
