What are these wires for?

I spent a few hours today replacing the hood shocks with heavy duty versions from our host. It was a PITA but well worth it. Finally, no more getting knocked on the head by a slowly falling hood.

After pulling the cover off to get access, I found this very long and not so neatly wrapped wire. It extends to both sides and reaches into the back of each fender (see photo). It also connects to a pair of brown wires on the passebegr side right by the blower hose (see 2nd photo). I can't seem to find its source.

Any ideas?

They look like some form of aftermarket junk, alarm or something. It's amazing just how much wire is installed then removed from the front of an old 911. I took a rather large pile out of mine when I bought it. She had 3 seperate alarms installed at varous times. I find a locked garage and a large collection of high powered weapons keeps her safe!

It doesn't appear aftermarketand I still can't locate where the wires go to.

Anyone have any idea as to the source of the brown wire that the grey one is connected to?

I may just disconnect it and see what doesn't work.

Oliver,

I can't tell from your photos where the wires are headed but I can assure you that they are not original. As people have already noted, after market stereos and alarms are the most common damage inflicted to these cars by previous idots/owners. I'd bet they are from a stereo installation.

Try to follow where they lead. A 911 is pretty simple and you should be able to trace where they go. A little disassembly may be required.
