69-73 E production #'s by color

Is there any way to determine how many early E's were produced in what colors? I have the total production #'s but not by color (maybe such info doesn't exist?).

I like certain colors better than others and would like to know how many actually might exist. it seems numbers matching cars with original colors (if not original paint) have the best potential for appreciating so i'd like to stay with the correct paint code. now i don't want an investment, i want a driver that i can drive the snot out of every nice weekend. but since there doesn't seem to be a discount for non-original colors right now i'd prefer to get an original color i like and be in a better position if the market gets out of control and 'numbers matching, original paint' early 911's become 100k+ cars. in that scenario i think original paint (or at least original color) pays big time.

Thanks,

Erik

Erik,

The only color breakdown I have seen was for the '73RS. While that won't directly answer your question, it may give a general idea as to what colors were more popular than others, in that time frame. It's in the "Carrera RS" book by Drs. Thomas Gruber and Georg Konradsheim.

I contacted the new P historian and he could offer no assistance.

There's some info in an ancient Christophorus on color percentage, but I believe it's for 1969 (?), and it was total production. Sorry but it's not at my fingertips.....and the mags are buried in boxes in storage. Anybody else with vintage Christo's want to waste an an hour or two going through to find this article?
