Help on "upgrading" 78 turbo
 

Well Ive already payed for the 78 930 and gotta say I loved driving it home. Of course everything I get I upgrade (with the help of professionals) I want to do a few things but nothing crazy. Do they make chips or heat exchangers for the 78 930? I tried searching but didnt find much. Im also looking to see what turbo upgrade I should go with. So far I could only come up with chips (if they make them) turbo upgrade, full exhaust, and full out better suspension. What do you guys think? thanks

Chips for a 78 930? This may not work well.
Headers, K27 or 29 turbo, 1 bar spring, Euro fuel dist., finished with a larger intercooler.

Pelican should have a good selection to choose from. With the spring you'll need to remove the head of the waste gate to substitute the spring. Depending on the condition of the waste gate TIAL makes an excellent unit.

thanks alot. Whats the difference between the k27 and k29? i found a k27 for $450, should I get that or try to find a k29. Also does anyone know where to get those side scoops like the slant noses had? thanks!

A K29 is huge and will be too laggy for street, especially if you have the factory exhaust/heat-exchangers on your 930.

Go for an aftermarket header setup and also an aftermarket muffler with a K27-7200 or K27-HighFlow Turbo, 1bar spring and better aftermarket intercooler (get a C2Turbo intercooler).

The 930 uses mechanical CIS injection. It doesn't have a computer/ECU, so there are no "performance CHIPS" as such.

I say change your R/P gear. It will weak up that puppy. it will be a much better street car. If most of your driving is done on long high ways, then you may not want to do that. If you want to rocket out of corners then you might want to change it to a lower gear ratio. Learn to drive the car, then up grade the power. I know it is very hard to resist boost. It is a drug, all you ever think about is sinking $$$ in it for more power. I have been there and done that only to find out that it had too much power-the hard and expensive way. Next I would do K27hf, intercooler, header, and a cam. You almost have to do all of that all on stuff. Is not the same if you don't do it all.

yes to all of the above. perhaps some 964 cams if you end up doing a top end rebuild....then you may as well bump the comp....then you may as well dump the CIS and go to efi to take advantage of the comp bump...while you got the heads off you may as well twin plug them....dont forget the supertec head studs....

Keep away from body modifcations, the 78 930 is as hand made as you'll ever get with a production car. The early cars, such as yours, had hand made fenders with welded flares; don't ruin it's value by trying to make it a slant nose copy. If you like that look, buy a real factory slantnose. As these cars get older, the early 930's will become more valuable, especially virgin ones. Engine mods can be hidden, body mods can't.
