Need engine rebuilt, norcal who to use??

I have a 3.0L that had bought down in L.A, and need it rebuilt. Who here do you use in the bay area, or Northern Ca.. Ill be driving it to them... If you know some prices, that will help aswell...Who to use, and who to stay away from.. THANKS

Heres what i need done..
3.0L Top end work case up.
Restud with steel studs
Powder coat fan
Have all sheet metal painted

PIC'S if possible...
Does the builder prep his own engines, or does a extra guy at the shop do it????

Welcome to the Forum.

Fortunately there are quite a few very qualified builders. If I were in the Bay Area, I probably would have Jerry Woods build my engine. Talk to Rich Walton 408-369-9607.

Best,
Grady

Take it to Henry at Supertec...It is a bit farther to drive to So Cal, but well worth it.

The Mobile Works folks have rebuilt engines for a couple of Pelicans. Maybe you can ask them for references?

I have known 'Turbo' Tommy Ammon sence the early 80's. He knows all the trick head work required and balances an engine so it will spin about 8000 RPM. I now live in ID. but took my engine to Tom for his Special Tom Ammon 'Signature Edition' race motor. It make great horse power !! Plus I trust Tom !!!

on thing about the bay area, we do have gifted mechanics. another thing about the bay area, it is very big. you want to be more specific about your location?

earlyPguy 03-15-2006 02:14 PM

What price range ?

What am i looking to spend? Who used Tom Amon, what year and what did you pay( If you dont mind)

Carl83911 03-15-2006 02:46 PM

Dude, save yourself some money and go here

http://www.mobileworkseast.com/

Jimmy Deering is his name and his partner Tom Amon.

they are mobile mechanics and will rebuild your engine at your house. You can even lurk around while they work and learn about your car.

Great rates which no Independent garage can match. Quality work.

You won't be sorry.

Tom rebuilt my motor about a year ago maybe 10 months ago. I had a spun bearing at the crankshaft, so the engine was frozen and needed to have a total rebuild with the case split. The heads were sent out to be machined, the crank also had to be ground, valve guides replaced, we also put in new cams. If you do a search on Tom Amon you should find the thread of my rebuild with photos. Cost for me was just under $6500. <p> Here's the link I hope it works. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=229365&highlight=tom+am on

Tom Amon rebuilt my 87 in December. It has been a terrific experience and he's definitely on top of his game. I drove the car for 5 years without realizing that there was supposed to be this much power! I have about 1500 miles on the rebuild and it is not using oil. So, another satisfied customer here adding a data point for you. I posted my pics a few months ago, so you should be able to do a search on my name and see the process.
