Productive Afternoon: Some Suspension P*rn

The battery mount project gave me the motivation I needed. To get to this afternoon, previously I pulled off the old suspension and sway bars, then spent too many hours brushing off cosmoline (have I mentioned before how I hate cosmoline). It's not like I'm making a concours car, quite the opposite, but I like to wrench on clean cars and I think leaks and other problems can be spotted faster on clean surfaces.

Anyway, I greased up the TRG swaybar bushings, and with some coaching from Viper Bob, got the sways in place. Man, those 25mm bars are beefy. Then bolted up the new JIC Cross competition struts and put in the nifty strut brace courtesy of Steve Wong at 911Chips.

Here's the front Strut:

And from the underside, you can see the adjuster:

Here's the strut brace:

And a close-up of the great looking brace and the JIC monoball/camber plate:

That's a great looking machined part. And light too!

It's really great for me to be able to share these pictures of my project with the community. Sometimes it's a lonely battle with the car. Although my wife and family are supportive, they mostly smile and nod at the crazy guy covered in muck under his Porsche.

Later this week I'll put in the rears along with the ERP bits. I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel. Need to give a shout out to Viper Bob who not only supplied the shocks and struts, but has been a source of essential on the phone support, and of course to Tyson who's been helping guide me since he got me hooked on his evil plans.

Thanks!

My situation exactly.

I would love to hear some feedback on the shock strut set up once you drive it. What rate are the springs? Is the helper/tender spring a "zero weight" one? I am helping a friend spec out his 993 mods, never heard from any one who has run those Cross set ups.

I hear you about the lonely battle. Sometimes I think the car is winning.

Cheers

Jeff - they are 8Kg/12Kg, or about 450/675#. I'll definitely provide feedback, but as a novice, the value might be limited. Suggest you contact Bob Brooks at www.VB-Motorsports.com for more info. It's a nice step up from the PSS9, more track-oriented, and about the same price.

Thanks all!

Hey Don, don't sell yourself short! Thanks for the spring rate info. Those look like good numbers. I have limited 993 seat time myself and have only driven one twice on the track so your impression will be greatly appreciated. Car's owner will be doing his first track days this summer so he is pretty green!

Love what you are doing with your car, looks great. It is excactly what I would do with a 993. I drove the car in question (97) and was not that impressed at all with it in stock form. It had been a couple of years since I was behind the wheel of a 993. But, the mods you are making look fantastic! Great threads as well. Keep it up!

Cheers
