GHL Header,Cats & Muffler
I have a 1988 911 Carrera and am thinking of upgrading the exhaust system with a GHL heater, cat and muffler. I would go with a SSI system but don't want to go through the problems of emmisions test every year in NYS.
Has anyone installed this system and give me feedback as to preformance, sound or any problems with the installation. |

I have the GHL sport cat and 1-in, 1-out muffler with the stock HE's. Here are two short videos I took shortly after the installation so I could capture the sound. The rest of the car is bone stock.

I'm not familiar with GLH but with most headers you lose your heat. Will this be a problem for you if this is the case?

from a cost point of veiw I installed a bursch cat replacement and bursch muffler. These were traditional parts to Porsche and with the addition of A STEVE Wong Custom burned chip Thats all I wanted.

I have a GHL 1 in/1 out muffler along with a Fabspeed euro premuffler, both are quality products and I'm extremely happy with both. Still have heat (even though I've done a 'heater backdate'). Just FYI, from what I've read, SSIs aren't the ideal way to go on the 3.2s anyways...
edited: I don't know if it's still in effect, but I also received a 10% discount on the GHL when I told them I was a Rennlist member (that more than paid for the cost of the membership which I had anyways.) Last edited by KFC911; 03-16-2006 at 03:43 AM.. |

think about headers very carefully. dont you think porsche dumped bazillions of deutsche marks into development of its exhaust to eeeek out as much ponies as possible????????? if it is a full blown racey car ..............DO IT. if its a 99% daily driver 1% track car DONT DO IT! have dealt with headers on countless race and street vehicles, the only ones EVER WORTH A DAMN were doug thorley headers and you will pay out the nose. header leaks and cracks suck big time! if you want to work on your car more than you drive it................you be the judge. money is or was no object when i looked into this mod. my 30 yr friend and porsche eng rebuilder/mechanic/racer gave me the above wisdom. showroom stock is fine by me and my wallet!
