Car cover for dust only?

My search didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

Just wondering what you all use to cover your garaged 911. I just want to keep the dust off of her while parked in the garage...I don't need a weatherproof cover.

I tried vacuuming my garage more often but I still get layers of dust and I don't want to wash her all the time just for dust.

Thanks!

I had a dust cover for a long time. It was thin and offered no protection from water/rain. Worked well until it became dusty and ended up leaving more dust on the car everytime I took it off. I bought a more durable one a few months ago and I try to dust the car off after I'm done driving it and then cover. So far the car is dust free when I take the cover off. The cover was ordered thru this site.

I use a California Car Duster and some detail spray.

Dust first, spray next.... it takes about 5 mintues and the car looks great!

I cover mine while it's in the garage just so when the garage doors are open I'm not advertising to anybody what's inside.

I drive my cars with dust on them. They don't seem to mind.

All of the covers I have used in the past eventually built up enough dust in the pores of the fabric that I got dust on the car anyway. Now I have 4 covers that I don't use.

It's a know fact that you can increase horsepower by washing and waxing your car. Dust actually creates more drag, causing your car to go slower.

Use a tan flannel cover. Its the softest (no scratches) and can be washed when need be. It if definately not weather resistant.

hope that was joke...

use flannel

I don't bother. The real problem is having the car get hit by rock chips. Dust is nothing.

Dust covers are most effective in parts of the country where it's dry and a lot of dust in the air. Arizona for instance is a perfect part of the country where a dust cover is worth the money.

You can wash you car at 8:00am and have a layer of dust on the car by 10:00am.

I use a plastic liner used by the paint shops. I don't remember the name but its a 3m product with some kind of Nascar blessing and logo...
the roll is like 5 ft wide and you can unfold the plastic even more if you need to cover more area (like for SUV)...
What I like is the fact that is sticks to the body like a skin thanks to static... so no dust will touch your paint.

The only thing to look for is not to use it after a car wash because the moisture has no place to go or evaporate.

I wouldn't use it all year round because of that but when I'm working in the garage, broming the salt and dirt it is perfect..
Trust me this is the ultimate dust protection (actually second, the first one is that plastic bubble you've seen in magazines)

I found the name: 3M™ Overspray Protective Sheeting

Randy: No joke. My car is more of a garage queen.
Steve: Plastic or outdoor covers will put a lot of scratches in you finish. Not a problem if you don't care what the finish looks like.

re joke - I didn't mean use of a cover; I meant the clam that dust altered teh aerodynamic performance of the car...

I actually bought a cover - a Porsche one that was for sale cheap. Someday, I will use it. I also have a flannel cover that came with the car. Someday, I will use that one too.

But I drive the car in rain - unlike some people. There's nothing that says Porsche like a 917 boring thru the rain and the dark at Le Mans...

The best cover I've found is made of Tyvek. I've had various covers over the years and found the soft cotton ones to be the worst. Not only do they create dust but allow dust to migrate through it.
I'm very happy with the generic Budge brand Tyvek cover in the K3 size. Fits 911s including widebody and flatnose. It's also considered an excellent light duty outdoor cover as well.

While it does a great job I also use Detail spray and/or a Cal duster to bring the car to 100%.

Yeah it's a joke. But I and other people do get that feeling (mind playing tricks) that the car feels faster after you have just spent 5 hours washing and waxing the car.

As a sailplane pilot I'm very cognizant of the effect that dust, bugs and the like have on the aerodynamic performance of vehicles. They can and do effect the boundary layer, especially under laminar flow conditions. However, real world experience often changes one's perspective regarding what is best in a garage environment. At times it became obvious to me that a cover, in addition to other sundry things, can aid in providing a necessary barrier between a Porsche and other natural occurring environmental considerations. All that said, here is the primary reason I keep my Targa covered while in my garage.

BTW, I also keep my jet black TR4A covered in my garage as well.

Cheers,

Dennis

If you car is dusty and you drive fast. The friction may cause spark and fire.
I saw that happened on the space ship in the movie

Maybe if my car was in absolute mint condition I would use a indoor cover.

Its not, so I don´t.

Although I don't use mine very often (it came w/ the car from the PO), I did initially, and it does work great and is as described above....
