Tranny gear bore distortion

I have a 1985 911 that I am rebuilding the 5 speed transmission. I pressed the synchro hub onto third gear. I then slid the bearing and inner race into the gear, on the side opposite of the the synchro hub. The race and bearing seemed to spin freely however when I try to slide the bearing in or out on the side of the gear with the synchro hub the bearing does not move. I assume that I distorted the top of the gear bore when the synchro was installed. I have read other posts and John Walker recommends using a sunnen hone on the bore if it distorts. I was wondering what spec's I should give the machine shop such as diameter tolerances, taper, surface finish, etc.. Also, does anyone know of a good machine shop I could send the gear to for the honing that has done this work before. I have searched the forums and read many transmission rebuild posts but I cannot find any info on the bore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Marc

measure the bore on one of the other gears, or leave the measuring to the shop. just a few passes on the hone usually fixes it. send the bearing and race along with the gear.
