engine I.D.
 
HELP SOME ONE.
I JUST FAUND AN ENGINE AND WANT TO KNOW WHAT IT IS
ENGINE # 6400084 WITH WEBER CARBURATORS AND HEADERS.

6400084 should be a Type 930/07 from a 1980 911SC. The Webers must have been retrofitted, as CIS was stock induction.

Near the serial number you found is another number.....should be the one that Tom posted...but it could be another......THAT's the engine type number and the definitive answer for what it WAS when it left the factory.

Also, if you are reading the 3rd character wrong and it is a "D" and not a "0" (sometimes the stampings are a little indistinct and can be hard to read on an angle) it is possible the engine is a Type 930/16 from an '83SC. As Mike said, the Type number is on the horizontal surface to the right of the serial number on the fan housing, in the format 9XX/XX. In this pic, the Type number is a little faint, but it is "901/02" (above the "6225", which shows up more clearly.) This is from my '67S 2.0 engine. Don't ask me what the 6225 means-- I think it is some kind of production number, but have never heard a good explanation about it.

THE ENGINE # 6400084 CONFIRNED, AND DID NOT
FIND ANY OTHER NUMBERS AROUND
SOME THING ELSE IT HAS A BLAK SHROUD.
