valve adjustment

hey all...im trying to adjust the valves right now but the 101 projects book doesn't give too good a desc of where the i gotta stick the feeler gauge. I've adjusted valves on an acura before but this seems a little tougher...do i put the feeler gauge right at the top of the valve spring? and plus it seems a little tough to get in...do you guys loosen it before adjusting?

Yes. Loosen the adjusting nut first, stick the feeler gage in, then tighten it to specification. Otherwise you will have a very hard time slipping the gage in (as you've found).

Good luck to you.

Second that method, also read every thread you can find, getting the "feel" of a correctly adjusted valve is a bit of a science. I kind of equate to having someone stand on a piece of paper, and then you pulling it out from under him.
