Does this 930 tranny have a lsd?

I have a 930 tranny bolted up to a 930 engine which is not in the car and has no axles. How do I tell whether it is a lsd tranny or not?

Thanks-
Craig Backer

Turn one axle flange in the direction of your choice. If the other one spins the same direction than its most likely an LSD . If they spin opposite from each other you do not have LSD.
Also note that very worn internals can cause the spider gears inside the diff to lock causing what appears to be an LSD instead of the open diff that it actually is. I would consider this a rare occurance but it should be looked out for.
Without question the best way to evaluate a transmission is to open it up and check it out. But that requires some mechanical skills and should be avoided if your not up to the task.
There are also #`s stamped on the bottom of the case that could help identify the box provided it has never been modified or rebuilt.

Anyone have any ideas on how to spin the tranny with no axles or axle bolts?

Thanks-

Do you mean NO AXLE FLANGES ? Maybe you should just remove the side cover and post some pictures. Thats very easy to do.

It does have axle flanges. Just no cv's or bolts.

Just grab the flange and turn, it should be fairly easy to turn if the tranny is out of gear.

You need another set of eyes to help you see the other side as you spin it or a mirror.
