915 axle flange torque specs?

Hello All just wondring if anyone knows the final torque specs for the bolts that hold the axle flange in place on my 915 transaxle? I saw in one of my earlier threads that someone said 35 footpounds if I remember correctly. Thanks all!!!

20 ft-lbs if it came with a washer under it and 31 ft-lbs if it came without a washer under it.

I am not proud to admit this, but lets say that I went with the 30 footpounds on a bolt with the washer, but have not driven the car? Is the stretch bolt now no good and would I have done any damage to the tranny itself? It looks like I over torqued this bolt by at least ten footpounds. Can this be fixed by simply removing the axles and pulling the bolts and replacing them or new ones at the proper torque? and just to verify on the m 10 bolts it is 61 footpunds for the axles correct?

Being the "stretch bolt is designed to stretch at a proper torq. I am guessing the proper thing to do and safest would be to replace them

Thanks afterburn,

I just called stoddard and ordered two new stretch bolts "ouch almost 20 bucks a piece" and then new washers I ordered all new 24 bolts fot the axles while I was at it.

Just to confirm then if anyone else out there sees this. I have the stretch/elastic bolt with the washer from a 73 915 tranny, so I will want to torque the stretch bolts to the lesser of the two which Ibelieve was 20 footpounds and if it had just been a bolt then 30 or so. thanks all.

A '73 915 will have the "necked" bolts with the washer which should be torqued to 20 ft-lbs. If you read all the "scattered" notes and updates in the 915 transmission sections of the factory shop manual only then is the above information "clear." It should also be noted that the bolt with the washer is produced with a neck and is more of an "elastic spring" bolt as opposed to what is normally considered a "stretch bolt" (such as a connecting rod bolt). These output flange securing bolts may be reused provided they are not over torqued. If you took them to 30 ft-lbs you likely should replace them.
60 ft-lbs is the correct torque for the 12.9 strength class M10 CV joint bolts; CV joint bolts may be reused provided the wrenching features are in good shape and the bolts are not excessively corroded.

Jim,

Thankyou very much. Tonight will be the night when I finally go for my first ride after four years of putting this car together. It will feel way nicer to know that my axles are all tightned correctly. I appreciate your help and the help[ of all the others on this board throught the last few years of putting this car together.
