Transmission Oil Cooler?

Found an article for a transmission oil cooler in one of the British Porsche magazines. Is this a worthwhile addition for a street driven car in Charleston's hot climate, or am I just looking for something to do in the garage while we're all self-quarantined? https://www.stuttgart-classica.co.uk/new-parts/915-gearbox-cooler-kit

A gearbox cooler is not necessary on a street driven car, especially if the car is stock.

Correct. Moreover, unless you need it, it's just one more thing that can go wrong, dump all your fluid, and mess up your day.

My understanding is that the cooler is for the loose gears, say 3rd that sits up out of the juice, and at 7500 rpm and in say 5th gear, the loose gears are spinning at a ferocious rate and getting dry and hot. There are different versions of cooler/pump systems, but along with the cooler, you want a spray bar hosing down those loose gears.

I expect adding the pump and spray bar would be more worthwhile. Easier to use an electric pump than the original gear (if you can find one) pump. Plus, it can be controlled rather than being continuously driven by the mainshaft.

I installed a system in my spec911 with an LSD, the wevo bottom plate with an integrated thermostat that started the pump at a prescribed temp. I could do a full 30 minute race and it would generally only kick on when I reentered the paddock after the cooldown lap or the thing sat a for a few minutes after parking it. this was in ambient air temps from around 70-90 degrees.

if a car was used for endurance racing it may have been worth the effort. it was a ton of work, a bunch of money and frankly after a season I wished id not done it as it was not really needed in my set up.

waaaay overkill for a street car IMO.
